On November 27, the Fifth International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition (the Chinese mainland region) ended at the Renmin University of China. After two days of intense competition, guided by Professor Zhu Lijiang, CUPL Team, composed by Li Sijia (undergraduate student from the school of Commercial and Economic Law ) and Wong Tianmian ( master candidate from the school of International Law) won third place out of 25 inthis competition. The competition is funded by the international Committee of the Red Cross to participate in the Tenth Asia-Pacific international Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition at Hong Kong in March 2012. CUPL has earned four consecutive qualifications to participate in the Asia-Pacific Competition.
In preparation for the game, Gengjia Ning (graduate student from the College of Criminal Justice), Peng Caixia (Master of International Law) and He Wenchao (undergraduate) provided research support. Wang Qifan and Hu Yupeng (third championship team in 2009) and Luo Min and Zhou Hanting (fourth runner-up team in 2010) offered game experience. In the process of preparation, team members not only master IHL knowledge, but also learn to teamwork.
International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition (Chinese mainland): started in 2008 by the International Committee of the Red Cross, Chinese Red Cross Society and the Renmin University Law School. The top three university representatives will be eligible to participate in the Asia-Pacific international Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition. Judges are international law and international humanitarian law experts from different countries and regions. Moot Court Competition organizers is designed to enhance college students’ interest in international humanitarian law and to promote Chinese teaching of international law. The players representing the International Criminal Court play roles of prosecutors and defense lawyers, speak in English, argue issues related to the "Rome Statute". The competition attracted more and more Chinese mainland universities to participate and in this year the number of participating colleges and universities are 25.
Asia Pacific International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition: started in 2002, organized by the Hong Kong Red Cross, Hong Kong University School of Law, Chinese University of Hong Kong Law School, and City University of Hong Kong Law School. English is the working language, designed to promote international humanitarian law in the Asia-Pacific region. It annually attracts dozens of colleges and universities to participate in the Asia-Pacific competition. The players representing the International Criminal Court play roles of prosecutors and defense lawyers, arguing cases related to the "Rome Statute" with the knowledge of international humanitarian law and international law. The top three universities in mainland China will be funded by ICRC to participate in this event. CUPL in 2006 (when no Chinese Division, upon entry), 2008, 2009, 2010, to participate in this event.
